LatLonLatLon Connect LogoConnect

Welcome!▼

Ever wondered about the hidden connections that link places across the globe? Have you ever thought about what other locations share the same latitude as your hometown, or where you'd end up if you traveled straight east or north? This app lets you dive into those mysteries, exploring the fascinating alignments of geography and uncovering the invisible connections between distant locations.

The Global Grid▼

Our planet is structured by an invisible, yet precise, grid of latitude and longitude:

  • Latitude lines run horizontally, circling the Earth parallel to the equator. They start at 0° at the equator and stretch to 90° at both poles.
  • Longitude lines run vertically from pole to pole. Measured east and west from the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, England, they range from 0° to 180°.

This grid system not only pinpoints any location on Earth but also unveils surprising geographical relationships between places you might never have thought were connected.

How It Works▼

Follow these steps to explore:

  1. Enter a city name in the search bar or click the "+" button on the map to select a location.
  2. Choose whether you want to see cities along the same latitude or longitude.
    • Latitude: Shows cities that are at the same distance north or south of the equator as your selected location.
    • Longitude: Shows cities that are on the same north-south line as your selected location.
  3. Explore the results! You can:
    • Sort cities by distance, population, or direction
    • Hover over city markers to see more information about each location
    • Click on a city in the list to zoom to its location on the map
    • Modify the search parameters in the settings menu

This tool displays by default cities with a population greater than 100,000 and within a 10km proximity to the selected latitude or longitude line. This setting can be changed in the settings menu.

Please note that city and municipality data are subject to different administrative levels and some entries might be neighborhoods or contain erroneous information. Additionally, markers may point to the centroid of a municipality, which may not always correspond to the urban center.
